Natlan could have been so much better if there was an actual emotional component that gave the audience some shock value and some actual concern for the main cast. Not even the main cast seems to care about the main cast how can you expect the players to gaf

...new au
Fontaine Space Au
(Genshin Impact au)
Okay so there'd be three ship crews working together for the same goal, to prevent the "flooding" of the galaxy, aka an eternal cold darkness that robs all light and kills everyone. It eminates from this ancient being, corrupted over time by being forgotten and pushed aside, it's anger and resentment festering a hatred for any mortal life, this fueling it's slow consumption of all live
Three different space crews join forces when it becomes clear things have gotten *that bad*. The main crew is from the Intergalactic Federation for Unity, known as the Feds. Their ship is the biggest, and the one the three groups are all using during this journey. Their members include the likes of Neuvillette, Furina, Clorinde, Wriothesley, Sigewinne, and Chevreuse
The second crew is the Spina de Rosula, formerly a group of space pirates from the planet Poisson. However, after the change of leadership and loss of their Homeworld, they've become more like space vigilantes. Their members are Navia, Chiori, Charlotte, and Clervie (I. She's alive I can't help it)
And finally, the crew of the Hearth. A rogue unit made up of the Lost, a collection of orphans without Homeworlds to return to, led by the only mortal to ever encounter the Emanator of the Dark and live, Arlecchino. Also includes Lyney, Lynette, and Freminet
It takes a while for them all to get along and shit, but they're headed towards their goal, and all would do anything to keep the remaining lives in the galaxy safe
Under the cut will be descriptions of everyone's little backstories and races, but yeah. I have a lot of thoughts about this please send me asks about this
Neuvillette - second in command of the Fed ship the Opera Epicles, last full blood of his kind. His race is near immortal, their long lives traded off with a lack of strong emotion. He still feels, but it's different and makes it harder for them to bond with other races
Furina - Captain of the Opera, Neuvillette's cousin. Her father was a human from the Feds, and thus she's half-blooded. She developed DID during the fall of their Homeworld. Furina is more like her Father, more emotional and caring too much, while her alter Foçalors, is more like their people, and takes over when Furina's feelings and nightmares shake her too much. Foçalors sees herself as a big sister to Furina
Clorinde - last remaining member of the Wolfrend race, which served to combat the darkness for Millenia as Galaxy Hunters. She's got wolf ears and a tail, has keener senses and comes across as aloof as she's usually just trying to keep up with all that sensory input at once. Chief Combat officer for the Opera
Wriothesley - former Duke of Meropiede, joined the Feds and the Opera crew when the man-made planet inhabited by outsiders was taken by the darkness. He's human lmao
Sigewinne - from Neuvillette and Furina's neighbor planet, the population of which was able to flee to the Feds before their world was devoured thanks to the emergency signal their neighbors sent out. Has a special inclination for healing
Chevreuse - engineer and combat officer for the Opera. Her Homeworld was Poisson, like the crew of the Spina. The others didn't know she lived, since the Feds got there nearly too late, only saving ten people. She's the one that bridges the gap between the Opera and the Spina
Navia - daughter of the Lord and Lady of Poisson, and the Captain of the Spina. She was devastated when they lost their Homeworld, including her parents and personal guards. She bares the Feds for not helping them, until Chevreuse explains they got held up by the Emanator himself
Chiori: she. Got bored living in the Federation. Just hitchhiked until she got picked up by the Spina. She's. Just also there??
Charlotte - yeah she's just also there lmao
Clervie - grew up in Poisson, raised by the main community after her mother was exiled for trying to sacrifice them all to the Dark. Believes her best friend and childhood love Peruere died in the fall of Poisson. She never wanted to fight, but is doing so for her Perrie
Arlecchino - formerly Peruere. When Poisson fell, she met the Emanator herself and tried to kill them. She, of course, didn't succeed. She was saved by an Arachnid entity, taking her memories and "humanity" in exchange for the power to try again. This "curse" added the white to her hair, and changed her eyes from warm brown to black with red X's. She can't remember Poisson, and the Spina don't recognize her for a long, long while
Lyney and Lynette - their Homeworld was more jungle-like. Both have feline features, not just Lynette, and have some mysterious, nearly magical abilities that were normal on their plantet
Freminet - his Homeworld was a water planet. He's got sharp teeth and gills and a shark-like tail, and sleeps in a tank of water. He works with the engineering crew during their time with the Opera
ANYWAYS
That's everyone! I think. But yeah I love the Fontaine characters and wanted to do something with them

I've seen some discourse about Fontaine Act V, specifically some posts discussing misogynistic characterisations and other such things, so I wanted to throw my hat in the ring and air out my thoughts.
Firstly: most of the game up until 4.0 had sexism rooted deeply within the writing. You can look to the actual character designs to see the mistreatment of the female characters most plainly, but it's a gacha game selling waifus - whatever, that's not pertinent. More pressing is the actual writing of the female characters; despite there being several more women than men, the male characters on a whole seem to get more screen time, story presence and deliver more narrative weight than their female counterparts.
Who are the characters who seem like they'll be relevant throughout the game? Which characters are awarded a greater diversity of personalities?
There have always been well-written female characters in the game, but so many are not given ample screen time to explore that. Even more get given interesting backstories with no personality to follow through on the obscure lore.
Even in Inazuma where the quest is dominated by feminine presence, it's Kazuha who has the most voice lines throughout the game out of the Inazuma cast, Ayato (who didn't even appear!) who gets retroactively awarded the title of mastermind. The writing in Inazuma does just suck in general, but still nobody thinks of Yae in the same way they consider Albedo, Scaramouche, Neuvillette. You can make ten million arguments for why Ayaka's demure disposition is relevant to her strength as a character in non-combative ways, but the game's narrative does not capitalise on that, leaving her to feel very samey to characters we've had before.
The point being: the argument for Fontaine being a misogynistic hell hole does have a backbone in how Hoyo has previously dealt with their characters. However, in my opinion, this is yet another case of "trying and falling short is a worst crime than making no attempt at all".
Fontaine has a huge diversity of women characters who all feel distinct. You could read an unmarked line of dialogue by Lynette, Navia, Charlotte, Arlecchino, Clorinde, Sigewinne, Skirk, Furina or Foçalors and you could pretty accurately distinguish who has said it. Now, a lot of these characters are written to be victims - Lynette being child trafficked, Navia having her whole family die around her, Arlecchino an abused orphan, Foçalors doomed to die and Furina is cursed. But in no way does this diminish their individual strengths or leave them without agency.
There's a misconception that a "strong female character" has to be, basically, an 80s male action hero but with boobs this time. If she is feminine then it better be in service of her badassery. In reality, the mark of a well-written female character is her agency in the story to change it - agency here is important, because throughout fiction female characters have often shaped entire stories... By being doormats that you could replace with a sword the hero really wants.
So in terms of Fontaine, how do these characters stack up? Not just in terms of their diversity of personality and depth of story, but also their power and relevance in the Archon quest itself?
Furina is presented as being trapped in suffering, but the reality of the situation is that she has the option to give up at any time. You cannot replace Furina with a cool treasure that the Traveller really wants; she makes active decisions in service of the plot constantly, in spite of her torture and fear and weakness. That weakness is never portrayed as some huge flaw that we the player must fix, it's in fact evidence of how strong Furina has been for centuries.
Navia too - though (by virtue of what the story is about) she has less to do, Navia thrusts herself into the quest in our defence, rallies our team and, yeah, needs saving along the way! Just like Freminet in the primordial seawater in Act IV or Lyney on trial in Act I.
Arlecchino maintains many feminine traits while also twisting them on their head. She is the "Father" of the House of the Hearth - obviously gendered - but she is most defined by her maternal love (feminine). She is never placed into a position of weakness in the Archon quest, always in control and saving others.
I think looking at Neuvillette's ascension to the position of leadership in Fontaine and labelling the whole ordeal "misogynistic" is insanely reductive. If every nation were ruled by a man despite 5/7 "archons" being women, sure. But Mondstadt is presently led by Jean, Liyue by Ningguang, Inazuma by Raiden (& Yae?) and Sumeru by Nahida. If the problem people have is instead that in this process Furina becomes more meek and emotional, then I point again to the wide variety of personalities the female characters in Fontaine display. If every woman is meek and emotional that's a problem, but those are literally only adjectives you would use for Furina (who is severely traumatised). Navia would be resolute and kind-hearted, Clorinde reserved and courageous, Charlotte curious and assertive - the list goes on.
And to pretend like Neuvillette doesn't bow down in many instances to the whims of other characters is a frustrating take. Yes he gets a cool cutscene of fixing all the problems of the prophecy, but that's only surface level; he did that after Foçalors explained that it was all her plan and her sacrifice. He takes Skirk's advice to give Arlecchino the gnosis. Even back in Act II, Neuvillette admits his own weakness of understanding to Navia - in that moment she is grieving and upset, but the narrative never treats her as unreasonable for her feelings. In fact, Neuvillette (who is supposed to seem wise and level-headed) admits his own wrongs and apologises to her!
Anyway. Please try to look at Fontaine with a bit more nuance.

fontaine archon quests act I and II commentary (with spoilers)
but first, the question, the most important question: do i c6 bennett or not?!?!
-why tf does no one care that lyney was trying to get to the oratrice's core. is this not a crime
-lyney and lynette's backstory feels dark for genshin, i'm actually surprised! and now i want to meet arlecchino so bad.
-i think we're being a little hypocritical here, aether. we're literally buddies with a harbinger that *waves toward liyue* and an ex-harbinger who, aside from all else, tried to kill us on multiple occasions, and an orphan boy with a traumatic past who joined the orphanage of the person that saved him, is seemingly just a magician, wants to save his homeland of fontaine, doesn't seem to be up to the usual fatui stuff and just wanted to be our friend is where we draw the line? THAT'S who we decide to be strict with, are you sure?! *i am aware we're not quite buddies with wanderer, but childe legit calls us his friends and we don't refute it. aether seemed unnecessarily strict with lyney is all, standing with his back turned, telling him he doesn't trust him all serious and everything. i felt bad for lyney. (although, i shouldn't be defending that brat. he did not come home the easy way and now i'll be forced to choose between neuvillette and wriothesley, and well. i'm sorry wriothesley, but have you seen neuvillette)
-the tears of the dragon of the water, navia you made neuvillette cry!
-that one time genshin turned into a court drama
-what's with the emphasis on childe's bad mood! i'm so intrigued for the pay-off
-neuvillette is nothing like i expected. i expected him to be rigid and stand-offish, an obstacle until we won him over, but he's actually a polite sweetheart who's doing his best to act human and cries a lot. and he is actually willing to reevaluate his sense of justice instead of being all stubborn about it. he's lovely. also his hair has pink hues under the right light.
-yes, paimon, the rain stopped because mr dragon made amends with navia and enjoyed his chat with us, don't worry about. i didn't expect them to make it that obvious, though.
-i loved act I. act II, i loved the furina and neuvillette parts and how it all tied up neatly with what we learned in act I, but some of the navia parts i didn't find as interesting. i loved all the childe parts, of course. loved lyney, lynette, freminet, neuvillette and furina. mikas- i mean, clorinde is cool. i particularly liked that furina is actually smart and thorough in what she does, despite her theatrics. she doesn't seem to be up for physical fighting, so i wonder what her kit will be.
-what little i've seen of the underwater exploration is SO. NEAT. it's so intuitive and smooth.

i think i’m enjoying the fontaine story now that i’m playing genshin again so here’s my thoughts on the new characters
-furina. i feel bad for her but i’m not a fan of her va. but i normally turn my sound off when i play so looking at just her writing,,,,,, i think she’s a fine character. the twist was interesting and i don’t fault furina for anything that happened. her being a drama queen but it being entirely a mask she puts on is fascinating. i don’t like focalors tho. she did furina so dirty
-neuvillette is kinda just vibin. he’s fine he’s likable. he doesn’t rlly stand out to me much except that i’m convinced he’s gay. i don’t ship him with anyone tho (most other characters are wayyyyy too young for him so i dislike seeing any ship art of him). i like to think of him as furina’s older brother.
-lyney. um. meh? he’s a good big brother but that’s all i rlly care about him. also he dresses like a slut? and his va is kinda annoying to me idk fjdksk
-lynette. kinda same as her twin. i appreciate that the twins are separate characters bc the trope where twins act exactly the same is a pet peeve of mine. i like that lynette is an introvert. idk that’s all i have to say.
-freminet. i don’t like his design. i’m so tired of the shorter guy characters wearing shorts and being treated like children. but as for his writing. it’s cool. i like that he’s the twins’ younger brother. i like how the plot actually addresses how much danger he was put in.
-charlotte. YOOOO NEWS REPORTER CHARACTER LETS GOOO!! she reminds me sm of april o’neil i love her.
-wriothesley. at first sight i thought he was a basic bad boy werewolf lookin weirdo (my demi butt can’t ever find thirst trap characters attractive lmao). but then i heard him talk,,,, and yeah his voice actor is genuinely a good actor???? i don’t like most of the anime-esque voice acting in this game, and the dramatic dialogue doesn’t help, but wriothesley’s voice actor actually tries to make it believable that his character is a person. and i respect that. and yeah um his backstory is darker than i expected,,,,
-arlecchino. she’s neat i like her aesthetic.
-clorinde. …….. finally a genshin character who doesn’t speak multiple paragraphs at a time LMAO. i like her so far. i kinda ship her with wriothesley tbh ,,, 👉👈 idk i like how often they work together.
-sigewinne. um. i don’t rlly like the child characters. also they were cowards for making her look human and not tHE LITERAL SPECIES SHE IS UGH-
-navia. SAVING THE BEST CHARACTER FOR LAST. bro i was blown away with how much respect and care they put into navia’s writing. her grief felt so real and i could not believe they put her through that much. she’s also so pretty and her design is so aesthetically pleasing. and tbh i hate seeing sm ship art under her name bc she’s too good for everyone lmaooo she’s great. i’m in love. she’s the best fontaine character (and maybe the best genshin character).
also i wanna say i did not expect for this chapter to have this much death and other dark themes. ik fontaine is the land of justice and court cases but man,,,,, tragic,,,,,

4.0 archon quest thoughts
first i have to say that i’ve been waiting for this for as long as i’ve been playing genshin and so i felt very normal about it (lying)
i liked lyney and lynette way more than expected! i had been neutral on them this entire time but i ended up really enjoying them
their backstory was darker in a more real world way than i was expecting from genshin. not that genshin never has dark/heavy story elements, but usually they’re curved by a more fantasy aspect (e.g. the genocide in khaenri’ah is they were all cursed to be monsters rather than straight up slaughter, scaramouche trying to kill himself is him erasing himself from existence magically rather than actual suicide, etc) but lyney’s account of their childhood involving lynette being a victim of child sex trafficking is like. jesus christ.
on that note, very cool of arlecchino to kill child abusers. but if she was really cool, she would kill the child abuser in her own organization.
i obviously invested stocks early in neuvillette and furina, and i was slightly disappointed with their characters. i guess it’s not too unexpected since i had such high expectations. my opinion dipped significantly in the middle but then mostly recovered by the end. i’ll have to think about it a while longer to fully process.
neither of them was like cunty enough. i wanted them to be bitchier. but my neuvillette opinion recovered when started bawling in his office after navia yelled at him, and my furina opinion recovered seeing her take a trial seriously and hearing that she takes the prophecy seriously and is working on it herself. neuvillette is primarily competent with side of cringe, and furina is primarily cringe with a side of competent. i can live with this.
navia and clorinde gay, but also it doesn’t matter to me if someone had a good reason, i’m not sure i could be friends with/date the person who killed my father. idk that i could get past it. i wish they’d twisted the knife a little more there.
would have loved to hear what evidence they even had against childe in the serial disappearances case. would have loved to know who even accused him. the disappearance started over 20 years ago, you know, when he was a toddler in another country.
the whole time the merged victims consciousness oceanid avatar was talking to vacher i was saying “let’s go ladies, kill kill kill, ladies, let’s kill, c’mon girlies, let’s kill” and then they did so yippee!! hooray!!
swimming mechanics so fun but i hate the underwater combat. i know that farming mats is gonna be hell for me.
are we gonna jailbreak childe? free my man, he isn’t innocent but he didn’t do that one.
prevailing theory is that arlecchino tampered with the oratrice to sow distrust in the fontaine justice system. used childe as the case just for funsies. to tease and bully him. workplace harassment.
childe talking about the abyss he fell into having a giant whale being and him being unable to find it again, i have to think he fell into the primordial sea. i hope the whale beast is a trounce domain. furina story quest 2.

Didn't you once make a genshin pokemon au? How's that going?
If I had any ounce of artistic ability, I'd be sketching the hell out of this au
For now it's just a list of every genshin character and the pokemon I think they would train based on their design and personality. Some are the same elemental type as the character's Vision while others are based on designs and backstories

had to put everything under the cut because it really is every genshin character
Traveler: Swoobat, Solrock (Aether)/Lunatone (Lumine), Alolan Raichu, Celebi (borrowed!), Dewott
side note, the traveler switches partner when they would switch elements in the game. at times when the traveler can use multiple elements is when they use multiple partners, if that makes sense

Okay so lore time:
Visions = Pokéballs
Archons and other ancient beings, depending on their stories - some of them (at least Venti and Zhongli) - were “Divine Pokémon that took on human forms once their species died out and now can train Pokémon like regular people
Unlike other regions where Pokéballs are all over the place, Teyvat only has “Vision Balls” which are gifted to people by the Divine Seven. It’s tricky to explain, but trainers whose Pokémon use Vision Balls can power-up their partners further than just their Pokemon traveling around by their sides
But because training Pokémon like this was invented by the Divine Seven in this region, the Raiden Shogun is seizing all Pokéballs from her area of jurisdiction so that no trainer may become as powerful as she, the Divine Gym Leader
Of course, other people can have Pokémon without Vision Balls, but those who have been gifted Pokéballs are said to be the most powerful trainers in the region
And then there’s the Traveler who can use the effects of a Vision Ball, but without one
Delusions could be like artificial Vision Balls that boost Pokémons’ abilities a fuck ton, but at the expense of their energy and potentially life force
Vision Balls boost the bond between trainer and Pokémon, Delusions exploit this
I’ve planned that the Abyss Order is corrupting Pokémon across the region using psychic type moves for their own purposes
Teyvat as a region is a giant melting pot of different Pokémon
The Fatui want to bring glory to the Ice Gym, the Abyss Order wants to restore their lost power
And Dainsleif was cursed when the Divine Seven had Khaenri’ah destroyed, just like Genshin lore
What do y'all think?

WOULDNT YOU KNOW IT BUT IM FINALLY ON SEASON FIVE (I know I’m super late but I’m finally almost done with it)
I wanna know who you’d think would be chosen for Archivist? Because based on her backstory I feel like Furina would be like Jon. That or she’s a very unwilling Web Avatar. I could even see her being Not-Sasha’d.
The way that Lyney and Lynette are the Stranger… the fact that Freminet is probably the only Lonely Avatar in the whole House of the Hearth. You know Arlecchino is just collecting orphans for the Stranger.
No way in hell Wriothesley and Clorinde are not Hunt Avatars
Neuvillette is Vast without any hesitation.
Navia gives me some trouble, but I could possibly see her as an Eye Avatar. With her intuition and the years long ambition to basically find the man that killed her dad, I think the Eye would like her very much.
I need to know, though, as an AU who’d you make as who? I vote Furina would take Jon’s space but there’s so many characters that anyone else could fill that spot as well. And I’ve mostly been thinking in terms of Fontaine because they’ve taken over my life but what about other people from other regionssssss ahhhhhhhhh
people who are into both
genshin impact
the magnus archives
PLEASE come talk to me i have so many thoughts about a tma au
